"Ice"
Acrylic Paint with Palette Knife
I went for a stylized/abstract approach for this painting, using more of my newly discovered love for palette knife painting, and played with color more than I usually do, which palette knife painting \has been prompting me yo do. It is a pile of ice cubes, and I think it looks better from a distance.

"Five"
Charcoal
Probably my least favorite of the lot, I like the shirt the best in it. Her eye turned out weird, partly due to her eye actually being a little weird and partly because I exaggerated it a little much. Her adam's apple is maybe too defined, and for some reason her skin turned out looking chalkier than the others. Again, not my best, but they can't all be winners.
"Four"
Charcoal
My favorite part of this piece was the hair. Hair was something I've never really gotten to play with and I had a lot of fun with it. The necklace and dress add a lot to it as well.
"Three"
Charcoal
The light in this one was unlike any of the others, and made this one more of a challenge, needing to focus on the nuances of the shades of white. I'm a big fan of this one, and I think the light, and the earring make it especially interesting.
"Two"
Charcoal
The second portrait in my series came out with a little more of a style than the others, which I like, and really sets it apart from the others. It probably most accurately describes my aesthetic and style of the series.
"One"
Charcoal
I did a series to 'flesh' out my charcoal skills when depicting skin. They are of models a friend of mine photographed. This one was very interesting to do because of how little of her face is actually defined by light.
"The Woods"
Pen and Ink
I wanted to try my hand at more textures with pen, and conjured up this scene in my head as a vessel for experiment. I had more success with the ground, I think, than anything else.
"Colorblind Sunset"
Pen and Ink
While on a camping trip with friends, we saw one of the most gorgeous sunsets of my life. We all went running to see it over the nearby lake, but my colorblind friend, Hunter, stayed behind. He wasn't impressed and it really hit me how sad it was that he couldn't experience something so beautiful. So, I tried my best to portray that sunset in a way he could see it, and gave it to him.
"Structure"
Sharpie, Paint Pen
My favorite part of this piece is the girl. I segmented her face almost into polygons a la early 3D video games, and portrayed their surfaces with perspective lines. It reflects the roll of structure in my life, with the yellow lines recalling both a glimmer in her eye, and a tear at the same time.
"Venice"
Acrylic Paint and Gel Medium
This was an attempt at something more abstract based on a photo I took just outside Venice, Italy. There was a really interesting pattern on the bark of a tree, so I superimposed it on top of the background.
"Shrouded"
Charcoal - 14in x 17in
This was my reintroduction to charcoal after months of not using it. It is a gloved hand in harsh light, and I tried to throw a pseudo-impressionistic spin on it with some degree of success.

"Moulin Rouge"
Acrylic Paint
This was my first real painting, so it was a bit of an experiment. I painted a picture I took of the famous Moulin Rouge cabaret in Paris, and tried to capture its glow, lust, and neons with the colors.
"Homecoming Ticket"
Pen, Ink, and Coffee
This was one of three winners for a ticket contest for our school's Harry Potter themed homecoming. It is all done by hand, and includes HP chapter stars, its font, the "Deathly Hallows" symbol, and a panther, our mascot.
"Repairs"
Pen and Ink - 14in x 17in
This is one of my favorite pieces. It's composition was supposed to remind you of a movie frame, which sets you up expecting a story. Story was really what I was going for. Why is this bear an astronaut? Where is he? Did his ship crash? Why a wagon?
"Exploring Wasteland"
Pen and Ink
This was one of my first attempts at a full comic page. I made it in a comic making class at one of SCAD's summer programs. The focus was more on the elements of a comic page than drawing itself. Overall I think it is laid out well and tells the story I wanted, but the art itself is not my best work.
